Under normal circumstances Barack Obama would not have been elected President, had people not been as dissatisfied with George W. Bush. The American public would not have elected a man as inexperienced or as radical as Obama, had the American people not been as upset about what has occurred in the last few years.
One can even disregard the Iraq War, as shown by nearly all of the exit polling, the issue was only important to less than 10% of those asked. Mainly the issue was the economy, people's jobs were being lost, prices were rising and families were losing their homes. John McCain, who was wrongfully, however successfully portrayed as Bush Jr. was not the person to bring us out of this economic situation. Neither is Obama for that matter. Come to think of it, there may not have been a single person running for President who could handle an economic situation. Romney maybe, because at least he'd run something in his life.
Many wrongly assume that Obama won because people were tired of republicans. I agree to an extent. People are tired of liberal republicans. People want elected officials who are going to do what they say they are going to do. If republicans run on small government platforms and then preside over the largest increase in the federal government since the Union's inception; of course they will be voted out of office. If republicans run on morals, values and ethics, and then act as if they were talking about everybody else and don't hold themselves to the same standards, then yes, they will be voted out of office.
What the Republican Party needs now is a true conservative to stand up and lead our party out of the wilderness that we have now found ourselves. We need to lick our wounds, rearm and head out into the fight. Believe me, most Americans are conservative they just don't know it. If the Republican party could get into people's minds again, that if you don't like your paycheck to be raped by the IRS, then you need to vote Republican. That is what we need. A new conservative leadership that will keep fighting for what is right in this country and not go back on the principles that makes us conservatives.

He brings up a very interesting point. The candidates must stick to their principles. It seems within the political game the passion for success overpowers the principles a person says they have. America is in need of a person that will stick to their principles while saying exactly what they will do for the country.
It seems that America only wanted to hear about change because of the current situation our country is in. We need a true leader, not a man who hides behind a message that people want to hear. We need a person who will stay true to their beliefs and will back them up with action and direct explanation. It is time for the average American to think clearly and remember what this country was built on. True leaders are walking among us, but we as the people have to make them known. It is time for the Conservatives to live up to their label.
